Aren’t we forever trying to fight getting a good night sleep?
There’s always different paths to go down when it comes to getting a better night sleep, and there’s always different reasons why we don’t get enough sleep.
They always have said you should get up to eight hours sleep a night, but that seriously doesn’t always happen to me.
Once I’m awake in the morning, I am awake and there’s no going back to sleep for me. I always find when I go back to sleep, I always wake up feeling more tired than I did the first time round of waking up.
It takes me forever to finally give in and go up to bed at night. Sometimes, I find myself laying in bed on my phone when I know that’s no good for me – so instead I try to read a book.
Creating the perfect set-up | There is nothing better than lighting some candles, and having no technology insight and just reading a book. Even some fairy lights would be perfect too. Although I speak about not having any technology down below, sometimes it is nice to wrap yourself up in the duvet and put your favourite chick flick on before going to bed. Your calm, and relaxed and just enjoying the moment which gets you ready for your beauty sleep. Plus clean bedsheets, fresh pjs cannot be any better for a good nights sleep where you just sink into your bed and conk out.
Napping needs to stop | I’m not someone who can nap, I mean I wish I could sometimes when I’ve had an early morning start and am back at home by three in the afternoon. However, I just can’t nap. It’s not such a bad thing though, because by the early evening I’m shattered. I remember when I was back in school, I’d be up all night texting away to friends and my boyfriend (at the time) and then would nap after school and it use to make me feel so shit. Staying up late and then napping throughout the day just doesn’t do you any good. (Or your body clock.)
Make plans the following day | Whenever you have something exciting and fun to do, however tired you are in the morning really doesn’t bother you or even cross your mind. (Just getting up for work can be a struggle!) You actually have something to get up for, instead of waking up and wasting half of your day in bed with crumbs all in it from eating your breakfast in bed like your the Queen. (Not that the Queen has ever done that before, I am sureeeee.) Make sure your organised the night before, with outfit and everything that you’re doing so there’s no messing around in the morning.
Keep yourself busy, active even | Tiring yourself out, of course will make you tired. Exercise is not only good for your mind and body, but it also tires you out. Sitting about of course makes you tired too, but by the time it comes to sleeping – it doesn’t just happen when your head hits the pillow. It takes you longer to sleep and rest your eyes. Just remember, when babies/kids are active and doing things – you always say he or she’s going to have a good night sleep tonight. *Sleep like a baby.* It goes for the same for us adults!
Put your phones/ipads/laptops away | Of course there’s times where I find myself sitting on my phone before bed. However, I do try to swap it for a book. I’m slowly getting into reading again, and there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting down with a book and getting so into it – it makes you sleepy. We all do it on holiday right? Lay out on the sun beds with our books, in the warm sunshine and the next minute we can feel ourselves nodding off? It’s so relaxing! Sitting reading a screen, isn’t quite the same concept for your mind. Save it for something to look at when you wake up in the morning, scrap the newspapers and books then – it’s time to catch up with the world.
What do you do to relax and get a better nights sleep?
